Why We Should Never Stop Wondering! (Wisdom from Mark Rober)

Why do stars twinkle? Or how does a rocket get to space? Maybe you asked so many questions that someone smiles at the sky.

[00:01:31] They smiled and laughed and said, well, you saw ask a lot of questions. Friends, have you ever noticed something? Children are born full of wonder. They notice things adults sometimes walk right past. They ask beautiful questions. They ask beautiful questions. They imagine amazing possibilities.

[00:01:55] And maybe, just maybe, that's not something we are supposed to lose as we grow up. Maybe it's one of the greatest gifts God placed inside of every child. Yes, because of every invention, every discovery, every business, every amazing idea.

[00:02:18] Started with someone asking, hmm, today's story is about a little boy who never stopped wondering. Not when he was wondering. Not when he was wondering. Not when he grew older. Not even after becoming an engineer.

[00:02:37] He kept asking questions his whole life. And because he never stopped wondering, millions of children around the world started wondering deeper too. And friends, maybe that became one of the greatest gifts he ever gave the world.

[00:04:24] And today's story is proof of that. That's right. Hey friends, before we jump into today's adventure, let's check in with you. Everyone, let's take a big time.

[00:06:21] In the sunny sky, there's a precious little... On March 11th, 1908, children. All because before engineering.

[00:06:51] Before NASA. Before amazing inventions. Before visions. There was simply a wonderful little boy named Mark Rober. Who loved to ask questions. I love asking questions. And friends, he didn't wonder because someone told him to.

[00:07:16] He wondered because he genuinely wanted to understand the world God created. He wanted to know, how does that work? Why does this happen? Could I build something even better? Question. And every question opened the door to another adventure. As he grew up, he appeared.

[00:07:44] Instead, he was alongside him. He loved science and solved. And he discovered something really exciting. Learning wasn't only about finding the answers in books. It was about discovering new questions. Yes, friends. That's one of our favorite parts about his story. He never loses his sense of wonder.

[00:08:13] You know, some people stop asking questions as they get older. But not this little boy. He kept wondering and wondering. And he kept exploring, creating. And question, experiment, and new discovery. Was planting a tiny seed for the future.

[00:08:38] He had no childhood questions. Some were almost every child dreams about. All the way to space. Mark loved asking. Well, those questions didn't stay little for very long.

[00:09:04] As Mark grew older, questions and discoveries could help people. That's right. So, Mark worked hard in school. He learned more.

[00:09:47] Yes. And after years of learning, Mark became a mechanical engineer. Now, friends, that's a big job. Mechanical engineers help design, build, help solve problems. From robots to machines to space technology.

[00:10:11] Engineers used creativity and teamwork to make ideas come to life. Yes. And then, something happened that many children only dream about. Remember when we left you wondering where all those little questions would lead? Well, they carried Mark.

[00:10:48] Engineers solved problems that before. Working with brilliant teams at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. One project was connected to something with a very special name. Say it with Masity.

[00:11:14] Isn't that life has a beautiful way of coming full circle? Friends, the Curiosity rover wasn't carrying astronauts.

[00:11:35] It wasn't robots to help scientists learn more and make new discoveries. Just imagine, a little boy who loved asking.

[00:11:56] God can do amazing things with a curious heart. Yippity-dappity. But here's something really important. Mark didn't become successful overnight. He didn't wake up one morning knowing everything. He learned one lesson at a time.

[00:12:23] One experiment at a time. One question at a time. One problem at a time. And every small step prepared him for the next one. Yes, friends. Sometimes we think we have to know everything before we begin. But the learning works. Great inventors. Great entrepreneurs. Great scientists.

[00:12:53] Great leaders. Great parents. And great children. Never stop learning. And in fact, there are some of the people who asked the most questions. And then one day, Mark noticed something. He loved engineering. He loved there was something else he loved.

[00:13:21] He loved helping other people learn. He began thinking, what if science felt like an adventure? What if learning made children laugh? What if experiments could fill families with wonder instead of boredom? I wonder. Friends, that little question became another seed. Mark started sharing fun engineering projects online.

[00:13:49] He never wanted to become famous. He started because he wanted to help people discover. Children started alongside their kids.

[00:14:18] And something beautiful began to happen. Just teach science. That mistakes are part of it. That's right. And that trying again is... And that asking questions...

[00:14:48] Celebrate. As more... ...is something. There were children everywhere who didn't just want to watch experiments. They wanted to build them too. They wanted to create, invent, discover. And that's when another idea was born. Mark started Crunch Labs. A place where kids infect together.

[00:15:17] Learn by doing. Because friends, some of the best learning happens when you build something yourself. And before long, Mark wasn't just making videos. He was helping children all over. Questions are worth asking. Just maybe.

[00:15:47] Your biggest idea begins with two little words. Hmm. I wonder. Yes. Discovered something else. And honestly, it might have been our favorite part of all.

[00:16:12] You see, Mark didn't only hope children would become better scientists. Or better engineers. Or better inventors. He hoped children would love learning. Stay curious. And notice the incredible value in every person they meet. Yes. Mark is also a dad. Dad.

[00:16:39] And one of the people he loves most in the whole world is his son Christopher. As Mark's audience grew, he made a thoughtful decision to keep much of his family life private. When the time felt right, he chose to share a little piece of his family's story with the world. Because he hoped people would notice something incredibly special.

[00:17:07] And notice something beautiful. Christopher is autistic. And one of the most beautiful things Mark has shared is how much Christopher has taught their family. He has unique ways of seeing the world. Remarkable abilities. His kindness. His joy. His beautiful heart. The wonderful gift for making other people feel special.

[00:17:34] And the unique way to guide him. One of the beautiful stories is that when Christopher meets someone, he loves asking questions. One of them is what's your favorite color? And then after they've met, he surprises them by creating a beautiful picture using their favorite color. And writing them a personal letter.

[00:18:02] Can you imagine receiving something like that? What a beautiful way to make someone feel seen. Yes. That's amazing. Christopher also has an amazing ability to remember the day of the week for many calendar dates. Isn't that amazing? God gives every person unique abilities. Some gifts are easy to notice. Others are quiet.

[00:18:30] But just as extraordinary. Mark has said that Christopher's greatest joy is making other people feel happy. He even called that Christopher's superpower. And you know? We think that's one of the most beautiful superpowers anyone can have. Friends, sometimes people think superpowers look like flying. Or becoming famous.

[00:19:00] Or lifting really heavy things like buses or cars. But maybe one of the greatest superpowers is helping someone smile. Helping someone feel remembered and loved. Mark also said something beautiful about Christopher's mom Lisa. Together, Mark and Lisa wanted the world to celebrate Christopher's strength. His kindness.

[00:19:29] His creativity. And the wonderful gifts that make him who he is. Every child has abilities worth celebrating. And every child has something beautiful to offer the world. And friends, that made us stop and think. God creates every person with incredible purpose. Incredible value. Some people build rockets.

[00:19:58] Some people build businesses. Some people build inventions. Some people encourage others. And some people like Christopher have a remarkable way of bringing joy and making others feel loved. Mark wants the world to remember.

[00:20:24] A successful life isn't only about what you accomplish. It's about the positive difference your life makes in someone else's. And maybe that's one of the greatest lessons we learn from Mark's story. Curiosity can change the world. Kindness can change the world too. And when you use your gifts to serve other people, you leave.

[00:20:54] That was an amazing story. It sure was. So friends, what did we learn from Mark's story today? May I stop please? Ladies first. Go ahead little sister. Lesson number one. Never lose your sense of wonder. Children are born full of curiosity. Keep asking beautiful questions.

[00:21:24] Now lesson number two friends. Learning is an adventure. Don't be afraid to say, I don't know yet. Because every answer begins with someone willing to learn. Lesson number three. Great entrepreneurs don't only have problems that help people. Mark saw that many children weren't excited about science.

[00:21:54] So he asked, hmm, I wonder if learning could be more fun. And then he built a solution. Now lesson number four. Don't give up just because something feels difficult. Mark didn't become an engineer overnight. He learned a little bit.

[00:22:23] Number five. Every person has God given gifts. Christopher reminds us. That kind of. And making other people feel special. That's right. And lesson number six. Our favorite lesson of all. Maybe the greatest legacy isn't the inventions you leave behind.

[00:22:52] But the people you encourage. The people you inspire. To keep learning. Keep exploring. Keep exploring. Keep creating. Keep believing in themselves. And never stop wondering. Because one curious question can lead someone to discover the incredible gifts God has already placed inside them. And friends. And friends.

[00:23:21] We think that's exactly what Mark has spent his life doing. Not only by building amazing inventions. But by inspiring millions of children to stay curious. To love learning. To see the beauty in other people. And to believe they can make a difference in the world. To believe.

[00:23:46] Because perhaps one of the greatest things we can do with the gifts God has given us. Is to use them to help other people. The great discovery begins with two little words. Hmm. Hmm. I wonder. Yes. I wonder. Okay friends. Do you know what time it is?

We'd like to share a Bible verse with you that reminds us of Mark's story. It's found in Proverbs chapter 25 verse 2. And it says, It is the glory of God to conceal a matter.

[00:27:09] To search out a matter is the glory of kings. That's such a great verse, isn't it friends? Because God created a world full of amazing things to discover. Every time you ask a question, learn something new or explore his incredible creation, you're growing in wisdom. Yes. That's right. Future leaders never stop learning.

[00:27:38] Not because they have to, but because they love discovering the amazing world God created. Friends. Before we say goodbye, there's something we want you to know. We are so proud of you. [00:30:49] Through engineering, through NASA, through being a husband and being a father. One thing never changed. He never lost his sense of wonder. Friends, Mark's story reminds us. That amazing things can happen when you never stop wondering. He faithfully used the unique gifts God gave him to help other people discover theirs.
