🎙️ EP 175 Be The Light, You Don't Have to Follow the Crowd to Shine!
Faith, Courage & Kindness for Kids
ENTREPRENEUR KIDS LEGACY SHOW Hosted by Daniel and Destiny
What if being brave sometimes means telling your family, "This doesn't feel right to me"?
In this heartfelt Legacy Shorts episode, Daniel and Destiny share how an honest conversation with their parents inspired a different kind of fall tradition, one filled with faith, family time, beautiful crafts, homemade treats, and kindness toward their neighbors.
After seeing decorations and costumes that frightened them, Daniel and Destiny spoke up. Their parents listened, and together they found a meaningful way to spend the evening celebrating Jesus' light and sharing His love.
Their story teaches an important lesson: you can make thoughtful choices with your family, speak honestly about your feelings, and still treat people who choose differently with kindness and respect.
🌟 COURAGE TO BE DIFFERENT
Sometimes courage begins with simply speaking up.
Daniel and Destiny discover that it's okay to tell a parent or trusted grown-up when something makes you feel frightened or uncomfortable. Your feelings matter, and you don't have to follow the crowd just because everyone else is doing something.
Being different doesn't mean being unkind. We can stand by our family's values while showing love and respect to others.
💛 CREATING TRADITIONS THAT REFLECT YOUR FAITH
A meaningful family tradition doesn't have to look like everyone else's.
Daniel and Destiny share how their family created an evening centered on celebrating Jesus, spending time together, making treats and crafts, and showing kindness to their neighbors.
Sometimes the most special traditions begin with one honest conversation and a willingness to do something meaningful together.
💡 ENTREPRENEURSHIP DISCOVERY: VALUES BEFORE SALES
What can a conversation about family traditions teach us about business?
Daniel and Destiny explore Hobby Lobby founder David Green's account of choosing to stop selling Halloween merchandise because of his Christian convictions, even though he said those products had brought in more than $22 million in sales.
They also discuss Hobby Lobby's decision to close its stores on Sundays to make time for worship and family.
These examples introduce an important lesson for future entrepreneurs: success is about more than making money. It's also about integrity, purpose, and the values that guide our decisions.
As Daniel reminds us:
"Money can measure a sale. But it cannot measure the value of your integrity."
📖 BIBLE MOMENT: LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Jesus teaches us that our actions can point others toward God.
That might mean welcoming someone, sharing generously, speaking kindly, helping someone who feels left out, or leaving a thoughtful surprise for a neighbor.
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
Feeling afraid doesn't mean you've failed to be brave. We can turn to God for courage and wisdom, and talk with a parent or trusted grown-up when something worries us.
🚀 TACTICAL LEGACY CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: ONE LITTLE LIGHT
This week, choose one way to brighten someone else's day.
You could make an encouraging card, welcome a new friend, help a neighbor with a grown-up's permission, or share something thoughtful with someone who needs encouragement.
Then sit down with your family and ask:
"What is one tradition we could create that reflects our faith and brings us closer together?"
Maybe it's baking together, reading a favorite story, praying as a family, making crafts, or finding a simple way to serve someone else.
Remember, a meaningful tradition can begin with one thoughtful conversation.

[00:00:02] You can do anything, we all have a God given destiny Never let negative thoughts or people tell you you can't be great Cause you were fearfully and wonderfully made There's greatness inside all of us But greatness doesn't happen It takes boldness, courage and leadership Welcome to the Entrepreneur Kids Legacy Show Where we think big, big broadly
[00:00:30] And make amazing things happen I'm Destiny I'm Daniel We challenge you to step into your future Take action And create a legacy that lasts Let's go! Have you ever noticed that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply say how you feel Even when everyone else around you seems excited about something
[00:00:57] Especially when you're not excited about it at all That's true Destiny And today we're sharing something personal Something that reminds us that courage Doesn't always mean doing what others may be doing Sometimes it means speaking honestly Making a thoughtful choice And finding a beautiful way to do things differently
[00:01:23] And we're going to tell you how our family decided to make this fall season a little brighter And more blessed Welcome to the Entrepreneur Kids Legacy Show! I'm your business buddy Daniel And I'm Destiny Your bright business princess BFF
[00:01:48] Today we're talking about courage, kindness, and what it means to be a light And it all began with something we saw when we were out with our family one day Daniel, do you remember when we saw those very scary decorations and costumes a while back? I do Some of them looked really frightening to us And we didn't enjoy seeing them I didn't like them at all
[00:02:18] I felt so uncomfortable So we told mama how we felt And something wonderful happened She listened She didn't tell us we had to enjoy something just because other people did We talked about it as a family And we decided that instead of celebrating Halloween We'd create a different tradition One with games, beautiful crafts They filled movies and cartoons
[00:02:48] Like David this year, the king of kings last year And of course yummy homemade delicious goodies Yum! Daniel, you're making me hungry Me too And most importantly Being together And we find ways to share kindness with our neighbors too We intentionally spend the evening together as a family So we don't answer the door
[00:03:17] But we prepare a special note And some goodies to leave for children who visit We hope it brings them a little surprise A big smile And a reminder that they're loved I love that pie And we can celebrate differently And still make somebody's day brighter Exactly Our parents remind us that families can make different choices
[00:03:43] Some families in our community celebrate one way Some create different traditions And some don't celebrate at all And we can still be kind to one another Absolutely You don't have to agree about every tradition To treat someone with respect And you don't have to join every activity to be kind You can say no thank you
[00:04:11] I have a different plan Exactly You can make a thoughtful choice That fits you and your family And be kind and respectful And if something frightens you Or makes you uncomfortable Or you don't enjoy something You can tell a parent or another trusted grown-up That way you can come up with a plan together Exactly Your feelings deserve to be heard
[00:04:40] Destiny, did you know there's a famous American business That made a decision A little like our family did When we chose to celebrate the season differently Really? What business? It's called Hobby Lobby It's a huge arts and crafts store Founded by Christian entrepreneurs David and Barbara Green And here's something remarkable, friends
[00:05:09] Hobby Lobby used to sell Halloween merchandise In fact, its founder, Sherrod, brought in more than $12 in sales $22 million? $22 million? But David Green explained
[00:05:36] That he wanted his business decisions to reflect his Christian faith So Hobby Lobby stopped selling all Halloween merchandise You won't find ghosts, skeletons, witches, ghouls, ghosts, monsters, nothing I mean nothing scary Moms can go there with confidence Knowing their kids won't get spooked out
[00:06:03] And instead, shoppers can find beautiful autumn decorations Pumpkins, fall leaves, and seasonal crafts Ooh, just like our beautiful fall decorations Exactly, Destiny And here's another interesting fact Hobby Lobby closes its stores every Sunday Giving its employees time to worship
[00:06:30] Rest and being with their families Mr. Green has shared That choosing not to sell Halloween merchandise And closing on Sundays Meant giving up sales But he also believes That God blessed their business In even greater ways over time So he chose to honor God Even while making less money
[00:07:00] Exactly He made those decisions Because he believed they were right Not because he knew they would make him richer And that's a powerful lesson For every future entrepreneur Being successful in business Isn't only about how much money you can make It's also about the values that guide your decisions
[00:07:27] Money can measure a sale But it cannot measure the value of your integrity Because some things are worth more than money Absolutely, Destiny Friends, never let the opportunity to make more money Become integrity Oh, and remember Having strong convictions
[00:07:52] Doesn't mean that we have to judge people who make different choices We can still be kind to everyone Always True leadership means Having the courage to live by your convictions While treating others with kindness and respect And that brings us to something beautiful Jesus taught us About letting our light shine There's a verse in the Bible
[00:08:21] That lets us understand How to be a light In Matthew chapter 5 verse 16 Jesus says Let your light shine before men That they may see your good works And glorify your Father Which is in heaven Daniel, tell our friends How can we sign if we're not real light bulbs? Well, we don't need to glow in the dark
[00:08:49] Jesus is teaching us That our actions can point people toward God's love When we're generous When we welcome someone When we speak kindly Or when we help someone who feels left Goodies on our doorstep For the neighborhood children
[00:09:18] And making others smile Exactly, Destiny Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness And there's something else I want you to remember Being courageous doesn't mean we never feel afraid In 2 Timothy chapter 1 verse 7 The Bible tells us
[00:09:44] For God have not given us a spirit of fear But of power And of love And of sound mind That means when something frightens us We could turn to God for courage Love and wisdom Yippity-dippity And we can talk to our mama and dad When we're scared They could pray with us
[00:10:12] Okay, friends It's time for the Legacy Challenge of the Week Challenge accepted Future leaders We have a special challenge for you It's called One Little Light This week Find one way to be a light for someone It could be welcoming a new friend Making a thoughtful card Helping a neighbor with a grown-up's permission Or sharing something
[00:10:41] With someone who needs encouragement And you can ask your family Can we make a tradition that's special to us? Maybe you'll bake something together Read a favorite story Or a new book Pray about something together That's a great one, Destiny Or find a way to make someone else's day brighter It really could be anything, friends
[00:11:10] The important thing isn't that every family does the same thing It's that we learn to make thoughtful choices And treat people with love Future leaders Because you don't have to follow every crowd And you don't have to be unkind to people who choose a different path Real confidence can be respectful And a little kindness can make a beautiful difference
[00:11:38] We've decided to create a different tradition And we're really excited about it We started years ago Because for our family This season is an opportunity to celebrate Jesus Enjoy being together And share his love with the people around us Friends, that brings us to the end If you enjoyed our conversation
