It's your loving friend Destiny here! Are you ready for an adventure? Oh, I know they are! And I'm your business sidekick, Daniel! Welcome back to the Entrepreneur Kids Show!
[00:01:04] Legacy Show! Where we help children like you build courage, creativity, and a legacy that lasts! Today's lesson is big! We're talking about what happens when life gives you challenges so tough you feel like your dreams are, well, impossible. That's right Destiny, but here's the truth!
[00:01:36] Sometimes your hardest moment is the very thing God uses to create your biggest gift to the world! That's so powerful, Daniel! First, quick checkin', friends! On a scale from 1 to 10, how's your energy today? I'm a 10! Oh yeah? Well, I'm an 11, because today's lesson is wild! Shout it out, friends!
[00:02:06] What's your energy! What's your energy level right now? Have you ever tried to read in the dark? Or trying to find your way when your eyes are closed? Oh yeah, it feels impossible! Now, imagine you couldn't see it all. No lights, no things to look at, no books, so you can't read words. How would you ever dream big?
[00:02:33] Oh, that's what's your energy level right now? Oh yeah, I'm an 11, because you can't read in the dark? Oh yeah, I love that! So Daniel, did we get a story today? Hey! You know it, little sister! Buckle up, legacy leaders! I can't find a buckle in our house!
[00:03:02] Okay, well, imagine it, because this one is going to light up your imagination! Going way back! Take it away, Destiny! Destiny, that's not long enough! We need to go way, way back! One more time, because this one's going back in history!
[00:03:27] Listen up, friends! By the way, that was perfect, Destiny! Once upon a time, in 1809, in a tiny French village called Cabret, a boy named Louis Braille was born! He loved running, laughing, and exploring his dad's workshop!
[00:03:56] A shop where leather and sharp tools turned into saddles and harnesses! But listen, when Louis was just three years old, tragedy struck! He was playing with one of the sharp tools, an awl, that's spelled A-W-L. A small pointed tool used to pierce through leather, and it slipped.
[00:04:23] That's why we have to be so careful with what we play with. Little Louis got an injury that got infected. And little by little, Louis went completely blind. His whole world changed. And he was only three, that's heartbreaking. It was, but here's where the story turns. Louis didn't stop dreaming.
[00:04:50] He listened harder, imagined brighter, and worked harder than anyone around him. At age 10, he earned a scholarship to the Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris. But the books there? Giant raised letters. Kids could read them with their fingertips. But it took forever. Just one sentence might fill a whole page.
[00:05:20] Then one day, Louis heard about a system. It was invented by a soldier named Charles Barbier. It was called night writing. Ooh, that's so cool. What is it? I'm about to get there. It's a secret code of raised dots. It was used by soldiers to read at night without light or sound.
[00:05:47] But Barbier's code was bulky and complicated. Louis thought, what if I could make it simpler, faster, something children could learn easily? Louis made it better by simplifying Barbier's system to just six dots in two neat columns. Each pattern represented a letter, a number, and even music notes.
[00:06:16] He used an awl, the same tool from his father's shop that blinded him. He used that to punch the dots in the paper. By 15, he had a full system ready. This wasn't just an invention. It was a revolution for the blind all around the world. Ooh, and that became Braille. Like the dots we see on elevators and signs today.
[00:06:46] Exactly. Louis Braille turned Peen into possibility. He proved kids can create solutions that change the world. Wahoo! Daniel, that was a great story. I agree. I love it. So what did we learn here today? I'll go first. Here's what I learned. Louis didn't wait for someone else to fix things.
[00:07:14] He didn't wait to be a grown-up. He had a great mindset. He asked, how can I solve this? Yes, Destiny. And he turned his deepest struggle into a gift for millions. What a blessing! Exactly. God can use your hardest challenges to create the biggest blessings. That's how most business ideas are born, by solving a problem.
[00:07:44] Yuppity-duppity! Hey, Destiny, you know what's really cool? Podcasts are such a blessing for people who can't see. I'm so glad it's a gift for the whole world. I agree. I love podcasts. Me too. And guess what time it is now, friends. It's the... Take it away, Destiny! It's the Legacy Lightning Fun Facts Round!
[00:08:14] Da-na-na! Okay, so here's your question. What invention did Louis create as a child?
[00:08:42] A. Popsicle sticks? Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha! The pencil? C. Brow for the blind? Or could it be D? Computer keys? Okay, friends. Check the show notes for the answer.
[00:09:05] And leave your favorite part of this episode with your parents' Instagram handle in the review section on the platform you're listening on today. You. Yes, you!
