And I'm so glad you're here sweet, sweet friends, because today's episode might just inspire the brave leader inside you to do something
[00:01:02] I'm Daniel. You're the best, and I'm Daniel. I'm Daniel, your favorite co-host, and your biggest cheerleader when it comes to being the child who makes a difference. All right, tell the truth. Have you ever looked around and thought, why isn't someone fixing this? Maybe a school lunch wasn't healthy. Maybe a friend got hurt and no one knew what to do. Maybe something
[00:01:32] something you just saw was broken, but you knew there had to be a better way. Maybe a school lunch was broken, but you knew there had to be a better way. Today's Legacy lesson is for moments just like that. Don't wait for someone else to fix the problem. If you see the need, you might be the person God chose to lead. Let's rewind the clock about 200 years.
[00:02:03] This is a true story of a girl named Florence Nightingale. Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 in Florence, Italy. Yes, that's where she got her name. She came from a super wealthy family. Think of big estates, servants, everything. Because she was born into a super wealthy family, most people expect her to grow up,
[00:02:33] wear fancy dresses, go to big parties, and marry someone rich, of course. But Florence, she felt called to do something different. She wanted to help people. She wanted to be a nurse. So Florence didn't feel called to tea parties and ballrooms. As we said, she felt like God was calling her to help people.
[00:03:00] At 17 years old, she wanted to care for the sick, to serve the poor, to become a nurse. But back then, nursing wasn't respected like it is today. People said nursing is dirty. People said nursing is low. No, girls like you don't do that kind of work. But she knew God put this desire in her home.
[00:03:26] When the crime and war broke out in 1853, thousands of soldiers were getting hurt. They were passing away not just from the war, but from dirty hospitals. Florence said, if no one's doing anything, then I will. So what did Florence do? She packed her bags.
[00:03:49] She grabbed her Bible and medical notes and said, if no one else will go, I will. She showed up with a team of nurses. She cleaned. She comforted. She wrote down what worked. She created hospital systems that lowered the death rate from 42% to just 2%. She used science. She used science. My brother loves using science, you know.
[00:04:19] She used faith. She used charts and numbers. And she showed the whole world that compassion plus wisdom could save lives. People used to say she walked the halls at night with her lamp, checking on every patient, praying over them. That's why she's still known as the lady with the lamp.
[00:04:45] And because of her, the entire system of nursing changed. She started schools for nurses. She created church and hospital systems. And even today, years later, hospitals still used some of the methods Florence invented. That's so true. She never stopped believing that her purpose was from God.
[00:05:15] You're right, Daniel. See what said? I'm a pencil in God's hand. So what can you learn from Florence Nightingale? But let me just tell you, you don't have to be loud to be a leader. You don't have to wait to be old or perfect to be famous. All you need is a heart that cares and a mind that's willing to work. If you see a problem, ask God, how can I help?
[00:05:43] Because maybe, just maybe, you were born to be disillusioned. Okay, amazing listeners, it's your turn. Welcome to the Legacy Lightning Fun Facts Round. Da-na-na-na-na. That's right, guys. Welcome to the Legacy Lightning Fun Facts Round. Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.
[00:06:07] Did they get fluent because she was checking on people all night with her lantern? A. The night nurse. B. The healing angel. Or C. The lady with the lamp. I think you know the answer. I know.
[00:06:43] And while you're there, leave a kind comment with your favorite part of today's episode and your parents' Instagram handle so we can choose you as our next Legacy Leader of the Month. But as a joke, guys, if you want to be a nurse, then nurse it. B. The Okay, guys. Tactical Legacy Challenge.
[00:07:11] Here's this week's challenge. Take it from here, Daniel. Step one. Look around. What's one small thing that needs to be fixed or helped? Step two. Let's do something about it. Do a chore without being asked. Help someone. Write a kind note. Or start an idea. Step three. Share it with someone you love. And thank God for giving you a heart to serve.
[00:07:39] You don't need to be a hero. You just need eyes to see and a heart that cares and courage to act. Daniel, that's on point. That was so good. Florence Nightingale didn't wait for permission. She saw the need and she walked towards it with a lamp in hand. Maybe God is asking you to be the light in the dark.
[00:08:07] Maybe you are meant to lead when no one else will. Ooh, Destiny, I really like that. Be the light in the dark. My friend Eric Rock talks about that too. I know. I know. He does, doesn't he? Maybe you are the one who's meant to lead when no one else will. We believe in you, legacy leaders.
[00:08:31] So be the child who chooses kindness, who serves quietly, and who builds a future of compassion, faith, and courage. We love you so much, friends. Don't forget to follow the show. Be the kind of you. And share this with a friend or family. Because the more kids who listen, the more we build a world with leaders who care. See you next week.
